Global Athletes

The global athlete scheme is a national initiative to get sports teams to consider their impact on the environment. The award has three stages; Bronze, Silver & Gold, each with their own set of challenges. Here at the rowing club, we fully embrace the concept and have done since the awards start up! Below are just a few ways our club are engaging in the award:

Kit: we like to keep things local and support British Production, that’s why all our rowing kit is made here in the UK by Godfrey Rowing. Not only is it a great quality which lasts, based in Nottingham, our kit doesn’t have far to come!

Food: we’re rowers, we love food, perhaps a little too much… With a love of food comes our love of cooking, something we like to share, so keep a look out for our meal ideas, brought to you, straight from our kitchen.

Three R’s: As the great Jack Johnson said – “We gotta reduce, reuse, recycle” – we do our part to keep the canal clean by making sure we reduce the number of plastic bottles we take out in the boats, opting for reusable ones, and on the times we do, we make sure they’re recycled after the session.

Outreach: We love rowing, and we think that you will too. That’s why we’re always happy to have you along for a taster session, just drop us an email and we’ll have you on the water in no time. Last year we welcomed 10 other uni sports clubs to a taster session, and we’re pretty sure that they enjoyed it.

If you have any questions about what we do to help the environment or want to know how you can help us too, feel free to drop us a message.
