British Indoor Championships 2017

Back in December several of the UoG Rowers heading to Lee Valley Velodrome in London to take part in the British Rowing Indoor Championships. This is the third year that the club has entered the competition.

Our first races were Rob in the over 23’s, Kim in the women’s lightweight U23’s and Zoe in the women’s U23’s. Solid performances by all three, beating their previous times from the Welsh Indoor Championships only two weeks before. Awesome work all three! The next set of rowers up was Al in the over 23’s and Marcus & Alex  in the U23’s. Again, all three put in performances better than their Welsh races, with Alex in particularly shaving over 15 seconds off! The final races of the day saw Alex again, and alumni Harriet racing in the 500m sprint.

Besides the racing, the indoor championships is a great event, where we got to meet some of GB rowings greats, including the Olympic silver women’s eight, and also some of the top men’s rowers including Mo Sbihi! Despite getting a bit lost on the way home… the rowers had a great day!

We would also like to congratulate our friends over at Hartpury College, where one of their para-rowers Scott Jones broke the world record for 1km in the Arms and Trunk category, it was a great event to watch!
