Each year the University of Gloucestershire Rowing Club run the Learn to Row sessions for 5 weeks, teaching our Freshers how to row on and off the water before they pay the full membership.
Before our Learn to Row scheme started, we had a large amount of interest at the Freshers Fayre and held our first induction sessions the following Wednesday and Sunday. Starting from scratch, our coaches and seniors are currently in the middle of teaching this years group of Novices the correct technique of rowing to most effectively move the boat and prevent injuries.
Over the past few weeks, our seniors have been out in doubles and quads with our new members and we’ve already noticed more confidence and an improved technique in our Novices. We can’t wait to see their skills develop throughout the year and see potential for an exciting competitive year for UOG rowing.
